As an individual who has experienced the foster care system firsthand, he understands the profound impact that storytelling and the arts can have on those within the child welfare system. Entering foster care at the age of eight, Akim discovered a nurturing environment in a group home, which offered him a sense of family and mentorship. His lifelong aspiration to assist foster youth is fulfilled through his contributions at Foster Care Unplugged, where he empowers them through performance-based therapy. Akim's decade-long acting career features roles in HBO's The Wire, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Daredevil, and Delivery Man with Chris Pratt and Vince Vaughn. He also worked on Prison Logic, a comedy by Romany Malco with Regina Hall. Despite his achievements in the entertainment industry, Akim remains committed to supporting the foster care community. He consistently returns to Foster Care Unplugged to mentor and coach young individuals in acting and self-expression. His role as Acting Coach and Co-Film Director embodies his dedication to empowering foster youth through the arts. Akim's mentorship not only prepares them for performance but also instills confidence and resilience for life beyond foster care.
